Constructions in psychoanalysis and the place of Desire

Event Details
On 27th of March 2021 Petros Patounas, psychoanalyst of the School of the Freudian Letter, will present a seminar entitled 'Constructions in psychoanalysis and the place of Desire'.
According to Patounas psychoanalysis is not the reverse of the Discourse of the Master. In fact, he states, psychoanalysis should not be the reverse of anything or any discourse because its aim is to facilitate the embodiment of desire through the Act, what Patounas calls the identification with the Act. Lacan’s introduction of topology situates psychoanalysis beyond the ‘reverse’ or the ‘deeper’. If the orientation of psychoanalysis is the Act, the only reverse we could include is apraxia.
With these thoughts in mind, what then is the place of constructions in the practise of psychoanalysis, and what is actually being constructed?

BREATH «a token of life»

The School of the Freudian Letter UK presents
Dr. Llewellyn Brown
BREATH – «a token of life»
Summary
The question of breath appears as problematic, since it is both irreducibly anchored in the body, and escapes the imaginary register, the latter including within its sphere conceptual language, the signifier, and the body reduced to a specular whole. As such, it touches on the real, a part that cannot be caught up within subjectivity. It is anchored in the primordial inscription of the speaking being in language, in the unbearable anguish of the spasm prior to lalangue. Through various passages of the works of Samuel Beckett, it will be seen as untamable, and ex-sisting from words. As foreign to identification, it none the less infuses words with life, engendering a radical and vivifying disharmony, and offering an indispensable liberation from the stifling specular body.
About the speaker
Dr. Llewellyn Brown teaches at the Lycée international de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. He is an author of monographs on twentieth-century French writers. Among his latest publications: Beckett, Lacan and the Voice (2016), Beckett, Lacan and the Gaze (2019), Marguerite Duras : écrire et détruire, un paradoxe de la création (2018), and Samuel Beckett et l’écriture des ruines, de “Mercier et Camier” à “Soubresauts” (2021). He is a member of the editorial board of publisher Lettres modernes – Minard (Paris), and edits the “Samuel Beckett” series of the journal La Revue des Lettres modernes.
